Why the rinse is the job

Any method will break soil loose. What separates a clean that lasts from one that does not is whether the solution comes back out. Left in the pile it is sticky, and sticky carpet picks up the next round of dust faster than clean carpet does.

Hard water adds a second reason. Minerals left behind as the carpet dries are what make a pile feel crunchy underfoot, and people usually blame the cleaner's chemicals when the water is what did it.
